Hello! I'm Jim McDermott, and I'm a writer and social media/content marketing consultant specializing in music and entertainment. I am the showrunner and host of "How To Fix The Music Business", a podcast on the future of the music industry which interviews industry insiders.
My experiences working first in artist development, and then in the digital music space have helped me understand the unique needs of artists. I've worked or major record labels including Sony Music, PolyGram, Warner Music, Universal Music Group, Epic and Island Records. During my career, I've engineered successful grassroots and online marketing campaigns for hundreds of artists, including Guns & Roses, Depeche Mode, U2, Sheryl Crow, PJ Harvey, Tricky, David Bowie, Philip Glass, Mariah Carey, Fiona Apple, Pearl Jam, and many others.
Since leaving Sony Music in 2005, I have worked with with various music-oriented internet startups, and many artists as a social media and content marketing consultant, including nine-time Grammy Award winner Sheryl Crow.
I love to write, take photographs, collect vinyl, mess around with synthesizers, travel and spend time with people who enjoy the same. When you can help people within the context of your shared passions, that's truly rewarding.
